What is Cadeting?

What happens at a cadet meeting? Lots of things! You will probably start with your opening exercises where you learn to recite your pledge, the creed and the cadet verse of John 14:15. This is all about living for Jesus as the title of the song goes. It is probably followed with a Bible discussion...discovering what God's Word has to say about the things you do every day. Then come activities like badge work, crafts and games. This might be the meeting you will be planning an overnight campout or a service project or it maybe a gym night.

Whatever goes on, your counselor will be right there with you. He's a great guy, and he has an important reason for being there. He wants to help you learn more about God, about yourself and about the world around you.
How would you like to be an explorer? Where would you go? What would you hope to find? You would do a lot of exploring in Cadets. The merit badges and rank requirements will take you to the Bible, into sports, enjoying hobbies , trekking through the wilderness, doing crafts, learning about science, understanding where you live, developing citizenship and growing up. Soon you will begin to discover how God is at work in your life. Working through me, working through us and working through us to him.
Cadets have special events scheduled during the year:

International Camporee is held every three years at a location in North America. Thousands of boys and men gather together for a wilderness experience. In 2002 the local area clubs put on a week long event in the Kananaskis area.

Model Car Derby (Kub Kars) is the competition where each cadet races his pride and joy against fellow cadeters as well as against other clubs in the area. Cadets shape and form, paint and add wheels to their small blocks of wood and then race them down a ramp. Prizes are given out for design as well as speed.

Snow Derby brings your club outdoors in the cold of winter to compete in camping skills such as fire building, axmanship, compass reading, or knot tying and lashing. Each cadre could be pulling a sled or toboggan through a course designed to utilize the various skills. All finalized with a big pot of soup or chili to ward off the chills.
