Jesus took Peter, John, and James with him up a mountain to pray. While Jesus was praying (the disciples fell asleep—foreshadowing to the night Jesus was betrayed) his face changed and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Moses and Elijah appeared with him. The disciples woke up and couldn’t believe what they were seeing! Moses and Elijah encouraged Jesus for what he was about to do (be crucified on a cross to pay for the sins of the world). Then God the Father spoke from the cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”

Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, who takes away the sins of the world.

Questions to think about as you read:

  1. Are you listening to Jesus?
  2. Are you spending time with God, reading your Bible, praying?
  3. What connection did Pastor Paul make between Peter’s profession of faith and Jesus’ transfiguration?
  4. Psalm 99 also mentions the cloud. What does the cloud represent? How does that help your thinking about Jesus’ ascension and his return?
  5. Moses’ face radiated after seeing the tail end of God’s glory, Jesus’ face shone from within. How can we reflect the glory of Christ in how we live?
  6. How do the words of 2 Corinthians 4:3-12 comfort you?
  7. This week Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent.

For Families:

This week Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. In some Christian traditions, people give up something (social media, chocolate, time using electronics, etc.) as a way to consider Jesus’ sacrifice. Consider if this is something your family would like to do.
