I don’t know about you but serving in ministry in the church can be scary. We think- “Am I doing this right?” “What do I say?” “Did what I said come across right?” These are real fears. And frankly on our own, we’d be lost. The good news is you’re are not just a hand or a foot or an eye, you are part of a body- the body of Christ, with Jesus as the head. And through Him and His spirit He equips us to do kingdom work. As ministries start this week and next lean on Jesus- let him guide your words as you teach, preach and walk alongside the ones you lead.

Questions to think about as you read:

  1. Re read this passage that was read on Sunday. Does anything new stand out to you in these verses?
  2. We have the greatest news to share- that Jesus has saved us and is redeeming this world! But sometimes it can be hard to share that news. Ask God today to give you strength to share the good news with a friend, co-worker or neighbor.
  3. A good soaking rain is so good for lawns and plants. In this passage we see that analogy used to describe God’s teachings and his words. If you lead a ministry- have you ever thought about the people you are leading as tender plants in need of water? How can you present God’s Word with that in mind? If you are a participant- How can you receive this soaking rain of God’s Word?
  4. We read the first two verses of this passage for the children’s message. Sometimes studying can be a drag. You remember being in that math lesson that would not end. Yet this passage says the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. Yes, everything even in that math class. Take some time today and walk around your neighbourhood and thank God for being in everything from math class to the trees.
  5. This passage recounts Jesus calling his first disciples. Put yourself in their shoes- what would you have done? Do you think they knew what they were getting into?
  6. Because we belong to Jesus we have been equipped to serve his Kingdom. Have you ever thought about your spiritual gifts? This passage names a few. How can you use your gifts to serve God and his kingdom this week, this month, this year?
  7. Read this passage as you prepare your heart for worship this morning.
