1 Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
40 The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
Sometimes we might feel the weight of the world with all that we see broken in the world. Thankfully we are not responsible for fixing everything that is wrong. The Psalmist tells us that we are to follow our God and listen to him. We (as all are able and called to do) receive our salvation from the LORD. That is where we find our place.
As we heard yesterday, our call to follow may be new. Leaving our place of rejecting Jesus’ call to follow and coming to him. We may have been following for a while and are now moving from a place of apathy to a place of whole-hearted devotion. We may be moving to a deeper place of commitment. To greater places of service. Each day we are called to follow.
It is how Jesus will frame it in the gospels as well. Telling us in Matthew, Mark and Luke that we must take up our cross daily and follow him (see Luke 9.23-24). We are constantly being called to follow. Always being given opportunities to show our place as disciples of Jesus. Each day has the potential for a new and deeper experience of faith in Christ.
What way will we follow Jesus today? What have I seen of God at work around me where I can take part in what he is doing? What will I do to grow in faith in this week, month, year?
